description by the curator

This project is imagined as an immersive voyage that masterfully weaves the fabric of time and place, as the exhibition unfolds the captivating interplay between two profound concepts that intertwine to shape the very essence of our individual and collective narratives. "Traces and Territories" extends an enchanting invitation, beckoning you to traverse a contemplative odyssey that traverses the intricate contours of tangible and ethereal imprints, while tracing the intricate geography of birthplaces and habitats that form the very foundation of cherished memories.

At the heart of this captivating exposition resides an exquisite selection that transcends mere categorizations. Visionary architectural sculptures by the gifted Shamika Desai elegantly interlace with meticulously preserved photographic archives, lovingly curated by the locals. This symbiotic interaction grants us an intimate glimpse into the rich tapestry of shared history, where the past intertwines with the present, and narratives unfold across time's canvas. Meanwhile, the facades, brought to life by the artistic hand of Manuel M. De Las Heras, embark on a mesmerizing dance—a choreography of forms and perspectives that intricately reimagines the elevated elegance of heritage-listed houses in Ahmedabad's Old City.

ARC.HV, in its defiance of gravitational norms, presents a transcendent three-dimensional installation that boldly challenges conventional perceptions of space and equilibrium. A harmonious symphony of experimentation merges seamlessly with typographical exploration, effortlessly intertwining Latin and Devanagari scripts. This fusion serves as an exploration of morphological symmetries between cultures, each curve and line imbued with a profound tale of interconnectivity. In the realm of the lens, Shalin Thakkar captures the soul of celebration, breathing life into the very veins of the old city's streets—each snapshot encapsulating fleeting moments, crystallized within the eternal embrace of the frame.

The exhibit unfurls as a captivating tapestry of diverse artistic expressions, each stroke a testament to the canvas of cultural heritage. Shalin Thakkar's "Propitious Environment" becomes a vessel of suspended time, each captured moment a whispered secret carried on the wind. Meanwhile, the "Recollect from the Pole" series by the very hands of locals pays homage to the symphony of yesteryears. These memories are meticulously enshrined as inkjet prints on archival photo paper, each mounted on a board—a symposium of moments, preserved and perpetuated.

Enter a realm where art entwines with memory, where architecture engages in a dialogue with identity, and where the convergence of traces and territories sparks an evocative symphony of emotions. "Traces and Territories" is your invitation to bear witness as the past and present meld in harmonious coexistence, where memory finds form, and heritage flourishes in the vibrant tapestry of Dhal Ni Pole's cultural legacy.
