DATE: December 2017

The contemporary built environment often conceals the underlying order that shapes its form and functionality. Unlike historical built environments where order generated form, in today's context, order emerges as a result of complex interactions. The resulting contemporary built landscapes may appear chaotic, but our aim is to unveil and comprehend this hidden order.

Acknowledging this inherent order provides us with greater command over designing within the built environment.

This workshop seeks to foster an understanding of the concept of "Order" and its multifaceted manifestations within the context of the built environment.

The intent is to not only recognize this subtle order but also to wield it as a tool for design empowerment. As we delve into the heart of this exploration, we aim to foster a deep understanding of the multifaceted concept of "Order" and its myriad manifestations within the context of the built environment.

DIAGRAMS PRODUCED DURING THE COURSE

The heart of this transformative workshop lies in its exploration of the profound connections between order, design, and the built environment. Through an immersive experience that encompassed site visits, interactive sessions with experts, and an in-depth mapping of architecture case studies, participants gained a multifaceted understanding of the intricate web that underpins the contemporary urban landscape.

Site visits to key architectural landmarks provided firsthand insights into the diverse expressions of order within the built environment. From iconic museums to intricately designed office towers, participants observed the convergence of design principles and the resultant manifestations of order. These visits not only served as a source of inspiration but also as living examples that fueled discussions and reflections throughout the workshop.

The mapping of architecture case studies offered participants a unique opportunity to dissect and decode the intricate relationship between order and design. By analyzing various projects' design principles, contextual relevance, and impact on the urban fabric, participants embarked on a journey of discovery. This mapping exercise was more than just theoretical exploration; it was a hands-on experience that allowed participants to connect theory to practice and witness firsthand how the underlying order influences the design choices made in the built environment.

Engaging dialogues and informative sessions with these experts provided participants with a deeper understanding of the thought processes, challenges, and innovations that shape the interplay between order and design. Through collaborative learning and insightful discussions, participants delved into real-world scenarios and gained a nuanced comprehension of the delicate equilibrium between the ordered essence of the built environment and the creative liberties in design.

This workshop offered a holistic exploration of the subtle yet profound concept of order in the contemporary built environment. It bridged the gap between theory and practice by blending site visits, expert interactions, and case study analysis, leaving participants equipped with a deeper understanding of the intricate dynamics that define the world of architecture and design.

By immersing themselves in these case studies, participants gain insights into the nuances of order in architectural design. The exploration extends to the vernacular, as well as the designed, offering a comprehensive understanding of how order influences perception and design in the built environment.
